Covid-19

Legal Requirements

Auckland

At the time of writing, Auckland is under government restrictions at Response Level 3, Step 1.

The full advice is on their website (link), the part relevant to us is:

Outdoor exercise classes can take place with a maximum of 10 people from 10 households. The 10-person limit includes the instructor taking the class. Everyone must stay 2 metres apart. We encourage you to wear a face covering when you are not exercising. You will not be able to use any indoor changing facilities.

Outdoor playgrounds can open.

Gyms and indoor recreation facilities must remain closed.

Sports and recreation at Alert Level 3 / Advice for Auckland

We comply fully with these requirements. All our Auckland classes are held outdoors. In addition as we aren’t in a position to maintain a manual register, we urge all attendees to scan in with the NZ Covid tracer app. If you can’t do this please toss your business card (or a piece of paper with your contact details) in the supplied receptacle. The exercise leader will discard them after a couple of weeks.

Waikato

We are unable to offer classes under their level 3 restrictions.

Rest of Country

Classes can be held inside with 2 metre separation. Unfortunately level 3 travel restrictions mean our exercise leaders can’t leave Auckland and we are not currently in a position to offer classes outside Auckland.

Safety

We are not qualified in this area so we rely on advice from the Ministry of Health (MoH) who are.

MoH have determined that exercise classes, including boot camp1which includes aerobic exercises and yoga are safe as long as their guidelines (see above) are followed. Laughing does exercise the lungs but we feel it is going to release a lot less aerosols than hard out aerobic exercise.

It’s a good idea to wear a mask. While we strongly encourage their use we don’t mandate it given that we are outside with 2 metre distancing and the MoH doesn’t mandate it.
